Your Fertility: Know your body.
Healthcare is still a very elusive issue in Uganda despite the exposure in the social media and internet age. It is even worse when it comes to reproductive health. The stigma on infertility is so high and this makes it extremely depressing the victims. Science has proven that infertility is not a life sentence. A discovery that started in the exotic world, is now within rich. None the less, many people are still ignorant about this hope.
“The great news is that the medical treatment options for infertility are in the reach of Ugandans today. You can receive great treatment for infertility without traveling abroad,” says Dr Gonzaga Andabati a fertility Specialist at Bethany Women and Family Hospital.
Understanding fertility.
A number of issues are believed to be the cause of infertility in both men and women. Dr Andabati says that untreated reproductive diseases and other defects are some of the causes of infertility. “Half of the couples who suffer infertility challenges have had health concerns in their reproductive organs.”
Knowing one’s body is as important as knowing what you eat. Knowledge in life is key and it applies to our health too. The fertility specialists relays that lack of reproductive healthcare information exposes patients to infertility challenges that can be avoided.
Untreated STDs and wrong treatment for infections have been sighted as the common causes of infertility. “Wrong treatment especially concerning the urinary and reproductive organs increases the risk to infertility. Every woman needs to visit a gynecologists to avoid wrong treat.”
In the information age, it is incredible how one can find information with ease. However, you need to recognise that society has become more complex. ” Initially aunties were responsible for the sex education but it later died down with modernity. Social media has been helpful in closing the gap though one needs to be keen since information can be mixed up,” says Andabati.
Fertility controls
With a culture that is shy about reproductive knowledge, women are forced to be introverted which exposes them to more risks. Doctor Andabati says, “It is only responsible to have a gynecologist whether you are trying to be pregnant or not. You will then be able to counter and handle any fertility concerns in time.”
For one to beat infertility, he advises that patients need to know their bodies so well in order to overcome the diseases and conditions that can affect their ability to conceive.
When should I be concerned?
“If one delays to get pregnant for 12 months, she should seek help from a qualified health-worker that is gynecologist or fertility expert who should be able to give her a clear plan of how he can help.”
Dr. Andabati adds that you ought to visit a health specialist in case of any health challenge to ensure that any damage to your body is avoided.
