“It was at Bethany Women and Family Hospital (BWH) that my sad story changed after I reluctantly decided to take another risk. I chose to undergo a minimally invasive surgery.” says Phoeb a mother of one healthy little girl now.
In search of treatment for infertility, Phoebe had before undergone a major surgery hopping to conceive but it never happened. When she learned of the Fertility assessment service at BWH, she together with her husband decided to consult with the Fertility Specialist. The diagnosis showed that she needed surgery as a treatment procedure.
Would it work now?
A little over a month after the surgery at BWH, she was overwhelmed with joy to discover that she was pregnant. ” I had not expected it so soon that when I told the specialist that I was not well, his response surprised me. He asked us to do a pregnancy test, the very last thing on our minds.”
The test result was positive. “We are overjoyed to have a responsibility to shop and care for our own child. God is great!!” she expresses.
Fear almost kept me from motherhood
However, Phoeb almost missed the opportunity to conceive because she was afraid. She was afraid of trying and failing again. ” I was skeptical about the treatment procedure. Inside of me I asked, ‘how many more surgeries am I going to need before the baby finally comes through?’ “
For someone who struggled for 14 years to get pregnant, she is eager hold the light up for others. “I went to a number of hospitals to find a solution to infertility and each time I came back home, I was crushed.”
Phoebi says that she braved each day dark day anchored in her relationship with Christ. “My husband too was so supportive; it was our burden. I also found encouragement in the Bible story of Hannah who struggled with the shame infertility for years until God heard her and gave her many sons.”
Infertility is unbearable but keep you head high
“It was lonely and I cried so many tears. Some family members confidently advised my husband to find another woman.” says Phoeb. But her committment to Christ led her to focus on higher things. “I accepted to lead Mother’s Union when I was requested though I had no child. In honour of God, I chose to serve despite my insecurities.”
Counseling and guidance helped us
When the specialist advised that I take on a treatment procedure that involved surgery, I did not want to hear of it. But with great counsel and patience, I made a decision I am is proud I did.
